May on Baikal. Tours to Baikal Tours to Baikal in May

Baikal is a world-class attraction, so tourists come here every year from different parts of the globe. This is a unique lake with crystal clear low-mineralized water.

During your vacation, you will not only see the unique nature of this region, but you will also be able to explore interesting historical and cultural monuments. Among them are Buddhist datsans, the house-museum of the Decembrists, ancient wooden mansions in the center of Irkutsk, etc.

To go on a tour to Lake Baikal, you need to purchase a plane ticket separately. We recommend doing this in advance - this way you will save a lot. From many Russian cities you can get to Irkutsk by train. At Adventure Guide you can buy a tour to Lake Baikal both in summer and winter.

Types of recreation

We organize excursion and active tours around Lake Baikal. We also offer individual and corporate programs. Our signature tour “Baikal TOP-Active” combines a large number of activities and places, including rafting on the Irkut River. For lovers of excursion holidays, we recommend the Olkhon Island tour.

Summer tours

In summer the following activities are available:

  1. Cruises and expeditions. Usually expeditions start at the Small Sea and pass the Baikal-Lena Nature Reserve, Aya Bay, and Cape Kotelnikovsky. You will visit Severobaikalsk, the village of Davsha, the Ushkany Islands and other interesting places.
  2. Excursions. The most popular excursion route goes along the island of Olkhon with a visit to the village of Listvyanka and the ethnographic village of Taltsy. You will learn about the peculiarities of local life and culture, watch a show of a trained seal, sail on a ship to Olkhon Island, and then travel by jeep to its northern tip - Cape Khoboy.
  3. Rafting. You will float along a stormy river for several days, overcoming many rapids. Expect sweeping river bends, enchanting scenery and riverside dining. The trip is perfect for those who love nature and outdoor activities.
  4. Trekking. During a walking tour, you will be able to visit places that are difficult to reach by transport. One of the most popular routes goes up the Slyudyanka River, to Chersky Peak. The two-day trekking program includes trekking, ascent and descent.

Winter tours

  1. Snowmobiling and dog sledding. This entertainment is great for a family holiday. In the village of Listvyanka there is a snow-covered track up to 10 km long. This is where you can drive a dog sled. First, you will be allowed to communicate with the Baikal dogs and get acquainted with their difficult character.
  2. Ice expeditions on jeeps and ATVs. The journey begins in Irkutsk and passes through the Circum-Baikal Railway, Listvyanka, Buguldeika, Aya Bay, the islands of the Small Sea, Severobaikalsk and some other points.
  3. Excursions. You will be able to visit the main attractions accessible in winter. The popular “Baikal Ice” tour includes a trip on the ice in jeeps, a tour of Ogoy Island, and a long excursion around Olkhon Island. You will visit the Tazheran steppes - the habitat of ancient people - and climb the Tan-Khan observation peak.

When is the best time to go to Baikal?

The best season for summer holidays is from July 1 to August 20, when the weather is optimal. The season for winter recreation and admiring the Baikal ice is the end of February-March. At this time, the weather on Lake Baikal is sunny and moderately frosty. For many, it will be a discovery that on New Year’s Day the lake does not freeze yet, which means entertainment on the ice of the lake is not available.

Tour prices

The cost of tours to Lake Baikal seems high to many, but you need to understand that it depends on the range of services. For those who want to save money, here are 2 tips:

  1. Plan your vacation in advance. This way you can buy cheap air tickets.
  2. If ready-made tours seem expensive to you, go on a trip yourself, booking only a hotel. The developed infrastructure makes it possible to book excursions around Lake Baikal and its attractions on the spot and travel by public transport.
