Why "turntables"?
The question, I would say, is incorrect (subjective) for most spinningists, because the catchability of any bait depends, first of all, on the degree of confidence in it on the part of the angler. In other words, if I don’t like it, I’m unlikely to achieve good results. But to explain my love for "turntables" only, say, by "genetic predisposition" would be frivolous on my part. This is not so much about the requirements for the bait on the part of the spinning player, but on the part of the chub. So, the "chub ultimatum" looks like this.

Important: the rule of the first posting is not a variation on the theme of the fishing imagination, but the result of "sighted" fishing, i.e. situations when the object of hunting is visible, the behavior of the bait and the reaction of the fish to the lure.
2. As I already mentioned, the chub "turntable" must be small (but without fanaticism), i.e. Nos. 0-2. However, with all this, the bait should have the most intense "game". And contain as many mutually compatible stimuli as possible (acoustic capsules, "flies", tandems, etc.), because it is much more difficult to "persuade" a chub to bite from subsequent casts than to take it from the first posting. I will say more: if the chub did not consider it necessary to attack the proposed lure from the first posting, then he will not take it at all. Therefore, success directly depends on the presentation of the bait, as well as on its annoying properties. But busting is also unacceptable here - an overly aggressive "play" of even a small "turntable" can alert - and even frighten off a large chub.
3. The bait should not frighten the fish with excessive noise when casting, large size, etc.
Color
Ichthyologists say that each individual fish has its own taste preferences. Therefore, it seems to me, the contents of the spinner's box should shine with all the colors of the rainbow. But here we are looking for a chub "hit". And, if you follow the old bookish dogma, where anyway everything rests mainly on the copper color of the petal, at worst - in bronze-brass, then in clear sunny weather we catch on dull petals (emphasis on "copper", "gold") , in cloudy - we put lighter ones (range: "silver" - "gold"). And the golden color of the petal is exhibited as the most versatile.
Needless to say - how erratic fishing is demanding on the weather. By itself, the presence of the sun or, at least, the absence of rain is implied. According to that theory, "silver", as the brightest, and, consequently, "cloudy" color, falls out of the cage. As a result of the experience of fishing, I have formed a different point of view: everything is the same, only exactly the opposite. The maximum number of bites occurred on silver petals, in second place - "gold", but "copper" and variations on the Black Fury theme did not justify my hopes.
"Fly" on the spinner - pros and cons
I repeat, the chub is very picky about the bait, therefore - the work of the "turntable" must be impeccable. And what, if not a well-chosen "fly", better stimulates the precise work of the petal, its easy "startup" ?! On a small river, this is an absolute truth (today). True, with the "fly" the range and accuracy of casting worsens somewhat, but at a short distance (10-15 m, there is no need to go further) - this is not essential. But on a large river, where these range and accuracy are of decisive importance, the "fly" is not the best helper, and here I prefer the classic spinners equipped with a "naked" tee.
"Armature" spinners
By "armature" I mean a combination of core and beads. There are two classic options: the first is the use of solid metal (maybe plastic) forms, the second is hydro-acoustic capsules (a vivid example is Blue Fox). The first option, if we are not talking about heavy metals (lead, tin, tungsten, etc.), is usually lighter than the second. This is very important for "sighted" chub fishing on the river, when casting accuracy and minimizing noise when splashing the bait play an important role. That is, roughly: on a small river I prefer solid, relatively light cores, on the rift of a medium and large river - more and more liberal.
Petal shape (mepps scale)
Again, there is a discrepancy between theory and practice. In theory, spinners with an elongated petal shape (Aglia Long, XD) and baits with a minimum angle of deviation from the axis of rotation (that is, the same Lusox, which theoretically has a record small angle of deviation from the axis of rotation) show themselves better in the current , and hence the frontal resistance). From the point of view of dry theory, in conditions of a powerful current of the rift, the leading position should belong to Lusox, Aglia Long, XD (and in that order). Comet and Aglia are considered only as lake developments - and, as it were, fall out of catching. In fact, the "hit" of the 2002/2003 season, and by a wide margin, were petals like ... Comet, and the second place was taken by ... Aglia!!!
As for the small river, Comet also leads here, and the front-loaded Lusox also performed well. By the way, if you strictly adhere to the theory, it becomes incomprehensible - why did the reputable Mepps company develop the shape of the Thunder Bug petal? It seems to be just what we need in terms of size and design for our fishing, but, sorry, a chub in still water is rather an exception, but theoretically, there is nothing much to do in a current with such a wide petal ...
As for the specific sizes of spinners, in the context of individual types of petals, I adhere to the following proportions: Comet No. 1 and 2; XD Nos. 1 and 2; Aglia nos. 0-2; Aglia Long No. 0-I+; Lusox No. 0; Thunder Bug (by the way, in fact, it works tolerably well on the current) No. 0-2.
Decoration
By "decoration" I understand the combination of the own metallic color of the petal (core) and the color of the pattern applied to it. When a company frankly "works for the buyer", you will not find any kind of scenery - here you have painted insects and scales. I am of the opinion that a fish is a fairly reflex creature, which is not always able to appreciate the "art" offered to it. Therefore, healthy skepticism does not hurt here.

The main highlight, in my opinion, lies in the speed of the retrieve: it can vary from very slow, on the verge of falling off the petal (bottom fishing), to "asp" - when the petal captures air during rotation (surface fishing during a mass departure of insects). Why, in this scenario, front loading?
And, finally, thirdly: the chub is very wary of any attachments - like a swivel, a carabiner, not to mention the load-head with the loop set forward. But, it must be admitted, when fishing at depths over 2 m, the alternative to front-loaded light and ultra-light "turntables" is very scarce, and more often it is completely absent.

- if necessary, the spinner is painted. To do this, the petal is first coated with a primer, and then a layer or two of nitro-lacquer is applied. The petal can be painted on one (outer) side or both. If desired, any pattern can be applied over the paint.

Make the workpiece absolutely smooth. At this stage, it should have a finished look. Here you will need sandpaper. First, we use a large one, grind off all the bumps. Then gradually reduce the graininess and eventually achieve a completely smooth surface.

We take a pencil and draw a line in front of it. It will indicate the place of the cut in which the blade will be installed. Also mark where to drill holes for the bottom and back loops where the hooks will be.

Step six. Making loops

Step nine. Wobbler loading
In order for the wobbler to play the way it should, it needs to be impregnated a little; lead is used for this. If there is no lead, pieces of bolts will do. We drill holes in the "belly" and install weights. Weight is determined experimentally. Fasten the weights and try to drive the wobbler in the bath. If everything is fine, we move on.
Step ten. We glue all the details and impregnate the tree
The author decided to impregnate the wood with drying oil so that it does not absorb water. Choose high-quality drying oil, as it happens that it practically does not dry out.
Attach the hooks to the loops and spread the epoxy. Fill the holes with glue and screw the hinges into place. Also glue the blade well using the same epoxy glue.
Don't forget to install the weights on the epoxy glue.
Step 11. Priming the workpiece
After impregnation with drying oil, we apply a primer to the wobbler so that the paint adheres well. After the primer dries, paint the wobbler from a can in silver or another color as desired.
